Tim Tebow played the part of Achilles as the florida state seminoles apparel defeating the Troy Trojans this past Saturday in Gainesville. The Gators had a pretty amazing first half. They scored on all seven of their 1st half possessions and brought the score to 49-7 as they went into the tunnel. It was quite the impressive performance. The Gators were up so big they almost didn't know what to do with themselves.
I was given a little scare though when the Trojans came out strong in the 3rd quarter. They outscored the Gators 17-0 bringing the score to 49-24. As I warned last week, the Trojans pack more of a punch then a lot of people think. They played Arkansas tough last week and almost stole a win from FSU last year. You have to respect the Trojans philosophy to improve. They are a small school, yet they schedule games against some of the best football schools in the nation. If you want to be up there with the big boys then you have to play with the big boys. Omar Haugabook played the role of Hector, opposite of Tebow, passing for 283 yards including 2 touchdowns. He also ran for one touchdown. Troy receiver Austin Silvoy caught both touchdown passes for the Trojans. Despite their respectable comeback, the Trojans were no match for the No. 4 ranked Gators. The Gators didn't need the trickery of the Trojan horse to put the final nail in the coffin of Troy. In the 4th quarter Joey Ijjas hit a 32 yard field goal, and Tebow followed that with a 16 yard touchdown run. The final score ended up being 59-31 in favor of the Gators. Tebow's final numbers were impressive leading the Gators not only in passing but also in rushing. He passed for 236 yards with 3 touchdowns, and rushed for 93 yards with 2 touchdowns. He was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week yesterday. Urban Meyer said after the game that he was not at all disappointed with the Gators performance. I pretty much agree with him. Our offense was excellent even with Percy Harvin limited because of tendonitis in his ankle. The defense still needs to improve, but hopefully with another game under their belt we will start to see results soon. One of the bad things to come out of the game was the attack of the injury bug. Andre Caldwell strained his MCL, and it is now being reported that he won't play against Tennessee. While I would definitely prefer to have him out there hopefully the other receivers will be able to step up and I think the offense should be fine. Caldwell will have to provide his senior leadership from the sidelines. As most of you guys already know the Gators will be hosting the Tennessee Volunteers this weekend in the Swamp. Now that we are getting into our SEC schedule we should be able to get a much better idea of what the team is made out of, especially the florida state seminoles apparel defense. With superior talent, and home field advantage on our side I think we should be able to take care of business and squeeze a tear out of Peyton Manning in the process. c
